Part One:
Until recently I thought it was impossible to have handwriting that was worse than mine, but Walt Whitman lived up to his name and comforted me by having handwriting that makes mine look legible. While trying to decipher the criptic messeges left by Charles Darwin - I mean Walt Whitman, i saw various uses of the word "welcome" which kind of gives a summary of Leaves of Grass. But that's all i could get from the writing so now im just going to pretend im reading a text book and just focus on the pictures.
The first picture that i saw was of a man with a beard. Since his (or her im not one to judge) beard is not up to par with the white mage himself im only going to assume that it is his life partner. His life parter kind of looks like old Ernest Hemingway. In the next picture we see Hemingway with his hand (yes hand not hands) outstretched. Maybe he is reaching for the meaning of life. Or maybe he is trying to grasp the beuty of nature. Or maybe he is trying to catch the 18 foot marlin. We may never know. He then draws the cat in the hat. But it looks like Ernest Hemingway. Ernest Hemingway in the hat. Walt Whitman is my Idol. Lastly there is a heart, skeleton, hat-wearing diety that has been impaled with a sword.
Part Two:
The first tag says that those alien symbols are peoples names, or in this case the name of a tailor. This strengthens Whitman's immage as a common man and helps him understand and relate to the common people. Then he started lowkey creeping on Lincon and started having conversations with him in his notebook. Perfectly normal. Then he gives some wisdom on religion which further portrays him as accepting and kind as wll as open minded. It sets the mood for the embracing tone of his work.
The sketches in the notebook are of Whitman. He passed his notebook around to strangers and liked to turn up at bars. He is apperently hammered in the second sketch. I also found out that the secret identity of Ernest Hemingway in the hat is actually Walt Whitman. Walt Whitman in the hat. who woulda thought. The heart creature was supposed to represent America being stabed and reacting with "lol oh well, what can u do". Walt Whitman is one majestic creature.
