Oh the places you'll go

I was nobody. When I first came to Millbrook I had no Friends and no one to talk to. I had just moved to Raleigh from Cary and had to start from scratch. Luckily though, i was outgoing enough to make some friends to sit with at lunch and talk to in class. My favourite part of freshman year was the non-honors English class I was in. I'm 95% sure I was adopted by a gangster. His name was Travis and he would come to class high af and call me "son". Kind of creepy but he showed me the ways of the streets and told me that one day I was going to be the realest thug there is. S/O to you homie. I'm pretty sure he dropped out to be a professional street thug. That class was full of ratchets and i haven't taken an academic class since. But at the same time I am glad to have gained the perspective of the hood. Outside of school freshman year was boring. The only real benefit of it (other than life lessons from Travis) was the social skills that i gained from having to make new friends. That contributed heavily to my personality. Sophomore year was better because I made some real friends and hung out outside of school. I took a stats class where I learned that asking your class if anyone had gonorrhea will get you an F on your project grade. Just letting you know Mrs. Early that the rubric did not specify what we had to survey people on.

I would like to say that high school really began when I started the IB program. The first year was kind of messy due to me not knowing any of you guys. And English was boring because all we did was read feminist articles and annotate. I did have fun debating with people tho *cough* Annie. Towards the end of Junior year I had made some new friends and had become adjusted to the lifestyle of IB.

Senior year is where it's at though. I learned a lot about writing and literature from Mrs. G and a lot of history from Hoskdog. I "learned" a lot of "math" from James and bio from George. While I learned a lot and learning is great and you mainly go to school to learn, information isn't really what i took away from this year. I learned a lot about my self and made some of my closest friends. I honestly didn't know it was possible to have such a close relationship with your classmates yet I find that it will be really hard to leave this family behind next year. Thanks for the amazing senior year fam.

  2. I wasn't sure whether to take this response seriously until about halfway through, but I did get some good laughs in there, so thank you, Jose. I feel as though I was kind of in the same situation as you freshmen and sophomore year, as I was really only friends with like 3 people haha. But I can definitely agree with you that IB was where I truly met genuine, long-lasting friends. The people in our diploma class are all just amazing people, and I couldn't agree more with you that high school really didn't start until the commencement of IB. Good luck next year, and hopefully you'll continue to "learn" even more!

  3. Did you not learn any Spanish from Millie?
Jose, I'd just like to say one last time that whenever our group of IB meets next after graduation and college, we will all still be sitting around a computer screen laughing at your IOC Practice video. You will never live that down.
It's been great getting to know you, especially in Spanish. We honestly had some of the funniest skits and videos that I still laugh when I think about them. You give great advice, and have been a good scout for me to see if troubled waters have calmed or not. You're a quality guy, and while sometimes you and your water bottles annoy the heck out of me, I'm really proud to have known and been friends with you. I'm going to miss seeing you everyday and laughing with you everyday, but we will be in touch. Good luck at UNC dude

  4. Awh Nacho, you do have a heart <3 I laughed a lot at your gangster dad and now it all makes sense. I agree with you when you say that your high school experience really started when IB started and I'm super glad that you've made such close friends (me, right?) I had a great two years with you and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'll definitely miss you next year. Good luck at Chapel Hill, you'll do awesome! :)

  5. Bro, I'm glad that we have become closer over the past year and that you are now one of my closet friends. Thanks for that and for being by my side in 7 classes haha. I would say I'll miss you next year except you are following me to UNC so I guess I'll see you around.

  6. Aw Jose I loved this! I laughed and cried and I definitely agree that senior year has been the best but that almost makes leaving worse because its so much harder to leave all the great memories and people behind. I've loved getting to know you and more importantly Steve over this past year and I hope we can hang (literally (eno)) at UNC! Thanks for being the coolest cotyledon and a great friend.

  7. Jose, I am so glad that you decided to not follow in your gangster daddy's footsteps and drop out and instead chose to take IB. I have loved learning "math" with you and I really consider you one of my best friends cause when we talk #nofilter. I can't wait to visit you at UNC next year I know you are going to kill it and take all those friend making skills you talked about and put them to use!

  8. Jose/nacho,
I thank the gods every day that we've become good friends this year. By poseidon's trident and zeus' thunderbolt, I swear that we will keep in touch while you're across raleigh from me. Can't wait for a summer full of enoing and doing sacrificial ceremonies to honor athena. Demeter would be proud of us. Ευχαριστώ Jose, for your friendship.

  9. JOSE. I am so happy you moved from Cary and I'm so happy we became friends. With your ability to make jokes without changing your tone of voice, your ability to think of the greatest snapchat captions ever, and your (somewhat stalkerish) ability to capture great pictures of Walter, you never fail to make me laugh. Thanks for always debating with me (even when you tell me women shouldn't be able to vote). Also thanks for always passing the Chi and teaching me how to slap people. You're the best starchy seed there ever was.
